De Blanc is an improving sort who could well be a major role in the finish while King Triton returned from a 22-month absence to score on his chasing debut this month. BLAME THE REF has a poor strike rate but won with such ease over 3m1f in a Wetherby handicap chase in October, he can be taken to follow up today.

Butler's Cabin, Major Miller and Something Gold has done enough in bumpers to suggest that can get involved but preference is for RIVER RIPPLES, a point-to-point winner this year and just beaten in a Plumpton bumper. He found 2m 5f at the same track a trip too far on his hurdling debut but looks the answer here over a shorter distance.

Eggmount and Taksina dead-heated at Wincanton this month and, even with another 4lb, should go close. Carlisle winner Jballingall, however, may be too high in the handicap now. YASSAR doesn't get round too often but he's reasonably weighted on his Uttoxeter win and, if he's in a going mood, he might be good enough to take this.

The Gangerman won over 3m at Chepstow this month but the fourth, Amber Starlight, who blundered away her chances, is a stone better off now and could see off her rival with a clear round. However, this should go to ELVIS RETURNS, who has put in three good efforts over timber to date and looks reasonably treated on his handicap debut.

Just Anvil, twice a winner in January, may have needed the run on his seasonal reappearance and should get closer today, while Trenance won an Exeter novice handicap and is another to consider. NEVER AWOL would be giving weight away to his rivals if this were a handicap, following two wins here last month. He can land the hat-trick today.

It's hard to see any of these getting the better of LONG ROAD HOME. He was a very easy winner on his debut in a similar contest at Newton Abbot and even with a penalty today, should prove far too good. Newcomers Just Jaffa and Rapallo can fight it out for the minor honours.

The second division of this bumper looks a more competitive affair, with Sydney Greenstreet and FAST FORWARD both having sound claims. The former wouldn't need to improve much on his debut run at Plumpton but the selection gets the vote after a fine effort on his debut at Warwick this month that saw him caught close home.
