Mcevoy showed ability in bumpers and improved from his initial run to produce a better effort at Clonmel. Offshore Account has looked a little one-paced in bumpers but is the type to do well over timber while Red Rascal has given the impression there is more to come. Beautiful Ber was a 100/1 chance when running well at Gowran but this may go to KING RAMA, who very nearly lost his maiden tag here last month before a decent effort in better company at Gowran.
This looks destined for ARCH REBEL despite his shock defeat at Navan last week when Paul Carberry appeared to be undone by a brilliant piece of tactical riding by Johnny Murtagh on Maxximum. A Grade 2 winner at Leopardstown a year ago, Noel Meade's classy performer should have far too much pace for these rivals with Liss Ard, useful on the Flat and better for a promising hurdles debut at Gowran, taken for second spot.
Bumper winner Dr Willie Martin should make a hurdler, a remark that also applies to ICE AND SODA. Charlie Swan's five-year-old landed a Cork bumper a fortnight ago and though he didn't impress when tried over timber there previously, the going on that occasion was bottomless. Arthur Moore's ex-French trained Montomar should be getting the hang of things after a couple of starts and is one to note in the betting, while the consistent Ponmeoath will have his supporters. However, the main threat may prove to be Victor Victorious, despite being beaten 25 lengths at Clonmel, as he should be suited by better going.
Most of these are stepping up markedly in grade though all look progressive. SHER BEAU, the only one not to have had a run over fences, beat the very useful Kill Devil Hill in a Grade 2 over timber at Fairyhouse in March and his chasing debut has been eagerly anticipated. On The Net and Kerryhead Windfarm are closely matched while Coljon surely didn't show his best form behind On The Net at Clonmel last time. Bailey Breeze has improved with every run and he should prove the biggest threat if the selection doesn't come up to scratch on his chasing bow.
Those who plunged on CHESNEY at Navan last Sunday were heading for the shops to spend their winnings when Gerard Cully's charge ran right through the wing at the final flight. He was well in command and, providing he is none the worse, can gain compensation. No Sound is in very good form but like so many of these is unproven over the trip though that remark doesn't apply to Precious Memories, who should prove a threat from her lowly mark.
This is the highlight of the meeting - and should provide racegoers with one of the highlights of the season. The top-class hurdler BACK IN FRONT makes his long-awaited chasing debut and is impossible to oppose as he is likely to go on to become one of the leading lights over the bigger obstacles. Practice Match, who has had a couple of chase runs this season after scoring over timber in May, could be the one to take advantage if the selection has a mishap, with the experienced Vic Ville another who could be vying for a minor berth.
Boulta points winner Forget The Ref gets all the allowances and is one to note but Banna Man, who scored on the same track in November, has it to do. SUPER JUDGE isn't one of his stable's stars but has definite potential and this doesn't look a difficult heat. Mantell Gail never got into the action at Cork but had looked a decent prospect on faster ground at Galway earlier.
