Twominutes Turkish made an impressive start to life over hurdles when scoring at Fakenham and Chris Gordon's gelding commands a great deal of respect despite giving weight all round. That said, the vote goes to CADZAND as he is likely to have benefited from his hurdling debut when runner-up at Ayr and his bumper efforts, which saw him finish third on debut ahead of Twominutes Turkish (fifth) at Newbury and second at Warwick, were full of promise. Kanukankan shaped with plenty of encouragement before unseating his rider at Exeter and he completes the shortlist.

PENNY MALLOW won twice as a novice hurdler last season and can be forgiven her last start at Fakenham which came after a quick turnaround. The stable have been amongst the winners recently and the switch to fences promises to unlock further improvement. Arian won nicely at Newton Abbot on her most recent outing and is likely to enter calculations along with Nikap, who finished third on her return to action at Ffos Las.

THE GLANCING QUEEN, fifth in a red-hot renewal of the Champion Bumper in 2019 before landing Grade 2 glory in Aintree's Mares' equivalent, returned for a second crack at that Cheltenham Festival Grade 1 in the spring, finishing 8th. That was a respectable effort following a disrupted campaign and it is now full steam ahead for a complete season over hurdles. The pick of Alan King's pair sets the standard here and could be tough to beat, with the move up in trip likely to suit. Alpha Carinae, who accounted for Global Harmony (third) at Perth on her penultimate start, lost her unbeaten record when second at Market Rasen last time, but rates as the most likely danger now tried in a tongue-tie. A step up in distance could suit point-to-point winner Drumlee Getaway, who was outpaced over 2m1f in an Aintree bumper won by recent Cheltenham scorer Elle Est Belle, while Bourbon Beauty could challenge for a spot on the podium.

Phoenix Way has always been held in high regard and could fulfill the potential he showed over hurdles now switching to the larger obstacles. However, preference is for QUICK GRABIM, who lost little in defeat when second to Fusil Raffles on his chasing debut at Uttoxeter. The Grade 1 winner paid the price for getting into a dual with subsequent scorer Gumball on that occasion, with the winner sweeping past after the last. That fences experience can give him the edge here and he represents a team enjoying a fine campaign so far. Comfortable Kelso scorer Stratagem disappointed on his reappearance at Cheltenham last month and may require conditions to be slower than this to be at his absolute best.

STAR OF RORY was well held on his seasonal return at Cheltenham last month but that race was much stronger than this event. The six-year-old should improve for that run and is only 4lb higher than when winning at Ludlow on his final start last season. Rock On Tiger disappointed last time but he is a player based on his previous good effort at Uttoxeter. Others to consider are Methag, Kozier and Valse Au Taillons.

PRESENT MAN was unable to land a third Badger Beers victory at Wincanton last time but he struck at Chepstow on his seasonal bow off 2lb lower previously to show his fire is still burning bright and he's expected to give another good account of himself on these terms. Valtor should be sharper for his reappearance outing at Ascot and could finish on the premises, likewise Gold Present, who had the ignominy of refusing to race last time but is a talented individual when he consents.

Sweet Nightingale and Hunter's Dawn are entitled to come on for their debut outings and could feasibly finish on the premises, though the form bar isn't set particularly high and the newcomers could be worth focussing on for win purposes. The vote goes to AUTHORIZED PURSUIT, who is related to two NH winners and should know her job at the first time of asking. Eagle's First and Weird Sister are other debutants to monitor in the betting.
