Andrew Balding enjoyed another ground-breaking year in 2022 when his 133 winners gave him a personal best domestic prize money tally of £4,597,646 and dreams of further Classic glory.
Kameko lifted the Qipco 2000 Guineas for the Kingsclere trainer in 2020 and last year’s Dewhurst winner Chaldean is likely to put his credentials to the test in the Greenham Stakes at Newbury on Saturday.
The Foxes was another to gain Group 1 success last term when landing the Royal Lodge Stakes at Newmarket and he will return to that scene of glory on Thursday in the Craven and there will be further members of his team put their abilities under the microscope this week in a busy trials week.
Balding has a mouth-watering array of talent in the older division too with the progressive stayer Coltrane, Berkshire Shadow and untapped Old Harrovian amongst his team members and it looks like another red-letter year is on the cards for the affable trainer.
Andrew kindly talked to Tony Elves of attheraces.com about those he hopes can make it a memorable 2023.
