Nick Alexander has quite literally had to take it on the chin with two of his best horses, Donny Boy and Elvis Mail, on the sidelines for the rest of the season but as the late, great trainer W A Stephenson used to say “little fish are sweet”.
From his base in Kinneston, in Perth and Kinross, Nick will be expecting his winner tally to swell in the coming months of the New Year and he was at the double at Ayr on Monday courtesy of Boolamore Classic and Travail D'orfevre.
The dependable Dubai Day may well be the stable standard bearer shortly but there was certainly plenty to like about Hombre De Guerra’s very comfortable success at last week and he could be the emerging talent in the stable.
Ned Tanner made a timely return to form at Haydock recently and there are a few unexposed types who could well prove successful shortly.
Nick said: “There are a few too many horses on the easy list including one or two of our best ones but that’s life. You have to take it with a smile on your face and we will do the best we can with the horses we have running for us.”
Alexander kindly talked to Tony Elves of attheraces.com about his team for 2025.
