Beverley - Tuesday 12th May 2026
LOVERS LEAP showed more when third over an extended mile here last month and the daughter of Lope De Vega sets the standard on that evidence. Way Of The Will didn't build on an encouraging debut effort when last seen at Doncaster in August, but she should not be discounted on her return. Crown Of Dreams is the pick of the remainder.
The Fahey yard won this three years on the spin from 2022-2024 and NAVY LIGHT can provide them with yet more success. The Supremacy colt made a pleasing introduction at Ripon and although he lacked a change of gear, the youngster can put the experience to good use. Anchiano fetched 110,000gns at the Craven Breeze-Ups last month and must be respected ahead of his debut. Mr Darling appeals most of the remainder.
Merlier has the edge on official ratings, but he was well beaten on his sole turf start and it might be that ARTISTA offers some value. The Caravaggio filly had Saucy Jane a few lengths in arrears at Bath latest and despite being 6lb worse off with that rival, she can confirm her superiority. Newcomer Tide Runner wouldn't need to be anything out of the ordinary and is worth a market check.
Glory Hyde remains on a fair mark having resumed winning ways at Wetherby. That looks stronger form than Miss Brazen's recent success at Nottingham, but it could be the turn of SHERLOCK once again. Kevin Ryan's four-year-old won over 5f at Newcastle in February and, having finished a creditable second over 6f at Thirsk last month, is taken to open his account on turf back over the minimum trip.
Coolree has won the last two renewals for different trainers. He also scored here last week for his new yard and is not easily ruled out, despite a 4lb penalty, but DONNA NOOK makes most appeal. The daughter of Bated Breath just failed to catch the winner at Ayr a week ago and another bold bid is expected from David O'Meara's filly off an unchanged mark. Ripon third Amidst The Chaos and the unexposed Superfortress are others of interest.
WHAT FOOLS BELIEVE struggled when upped in class last time, having won over a mile in this grade at Southwell prior to that. She's reunited with winning partner David Nolan and this extra test of stamina may well coax further improvement from Ivan Furtado's unexposed filly. Ciao Capo will be sharper for last month's comeback run at Ripon and he could be in the mix. Wadacre Geisha and Regulus Black are handicap newcomers to note.
FOOD FOR THOUGHT sets a clear standard on her autumn runner up effort and is chosen to make a winning reappearance. That last run has been franked at Listed level a couple of times and a repeat can see her defeat Lovers Leap who has shown improved form on her last couple of starts. She may not be ideally suited by this drop back to 7f though. Crown Of Dreams can do best of the rest if matching the form of her debut midfield effort.
NAVY LIGHT is a strong selection here. He showed signs of greenness first time out but finished well when the penny dropped and is expected to improve significantly for that initial experience. The greatest threat may come from newcomer Anchiano who represents a yard in flying form including with its 2yos. He is bred to be a useful sprinter and can fill the runner up spot ahead of Suzie May who has speed in the pedigree and should be better than she showed on debut.
Merlier sets the standard on form on his pair of victories in the spring on the AW. However he has struggled on turf on his previous attempts so it may be best to look elsewhere. Artista's sole victory to date has also come on the AW but she has proven her effectiveness on fast ground this spring and arrives in form so holds fair claims. Narrow preference is for SAUCY JANE though whose form has tailed off recently but her last run is worth forgiving as she met trouble. She was highly tried at 2 and returning to the C&D of her only victory so far could see a revival.
GLORY HYDE cashed in on a reduced mark last time and remains fairly treated despite a 3lb rise. She has won over this C&D off a higher mark in the past so should be able to follow up at the chief expense of the consistent Beerwah who is also a C&D and last time out winner. Sherlock's sole victory to date was gained on the AW but he showed he is equally effective on turf when runner up last time and remains unexposed over sprint trips. He also rates a big danger.
Coolree has taken the last couple of renewals of this so is likely to prove popular once again. He snapped a long losing run here last time but still races off a lower mark than when winning this in 2024 so is respected. However he may find another course specialist DR RIO better handicapped. He returned to form over further here last time when midfield in a hot race which took a boost over the weekend. He is now just 1lb below his last winning mark and given he's won over as short as 7f on multiple occasions he should appreciate the drop in trip. Donna Nook has been running into form this term and will be another danger if allowed to dictate.
FAREENAR looked in need of the run on her handicap debut but she is well treated on her 2yo novice form and is bred to appreciate this step up in trip so is a tentative selection here. Wadacre Geisha may want even further than this in time but she has been given a lowly opening mark and her jockey booking suggests a big run is expected on her handicap debut. She can fill the places with fellow handicap debutant Regulus Black who proved consistent in maidens.
