Verdict
Upfordebate has won four of his last five outings and cannot be dismissed given the rate at which he is progressing. However, a 9lb hike for his most recent Sedgefield triumph coupled with a rise in class will demand more of the seven-year-old. With that in mind, it could be worth taking a chance on PRESIDENT SCOTTIE, who didn't appear to stay an extended 4m in the Borders National before running with credit over hurdles at Ayr. Ayiko and Saint Davy are other feasible alternatives.
Expert View Verdict
A strong contest where hat trick seeker Upfordebate is likely to prove popular. He had plenty in hand last time so a further 9lb rise looks fair but he does face his toughest opponents to date by some distance. At the other end of the weights Saint Davy catches the eye after a promising return in arguably a stronger contest where his fitness just gave way late. That form took a couple of boosts over the weekend so he ought to hold every chance off 1lb lower here. It is the unexposed Irish raider AYIKO who is marginally preferred though after chasing home a consistent sort with more speed on his chase debut. He's entitled to come on for that first completed start since the spring and given his sole hurdles win came over 3m on soft ground he's open to significant improvement now upped in trip.
