Verdict
GRAIN D'OUDAIRIES won two of his first three starts this campaign but then had the misfortune to bump into a rapidly-improving novice at Doncaster. He still beat the rest fair and square so a 1lb drop might be a bit hasty and he can take full advantage. Karafon's only previous handicap outing in this sphere saw him split a couple of subsequent winners at Ayr and he must be feared. Here Comes Georgie was ahead of the selection when runner-up on Town Moor in November, while Soft Risk has obviously had his issues but it's interesting that connections persevere with him.
Expert View Verdict
Progressive top weight Grain d'Oudairies is the obvious place to start here. After a series of errors he was just unable to reel in an improving rival who got first run last time but this stiff track should suit over a trip this short. He holds solid claims but his mark is creeping up and he may be vulnerable to a better handicapped rival. It is notable that a top yard persists with SOFT RISK despite his numerous issues and absences. However he returns off just 2lb higher than when an emphatic winner on his chase debut and that effort came off a similarly long break.
