The eye is immediately drawn to the unexposed profiles boasted by Dazzling Rose and Eternally - two progressive fillies of John Gosden's who are expected to go well. The latter impressed when recording her third career success at Lingfield last time, but MISE EN ROSE gave her weight and a beating in a competitive Newmarket handicap in July and if Charlie Appleby's inmate can reproduce the form which saw her finish a close second behind Spangled in a Doncaster Group 3 last month, she should take some stopping. Namhroodah is another who merits respect on the pick of her form.

Considering Sir Michael Stoute's record with middle-distance propositions, it is surprising that he hasn't won this contest since 2007 when Ask triumphed but this year he looks to have two excellent chances with Arab Spring, a talented but fragile individual who got back on track at Kempton last time, and KINGS FETE, who has returned from injury with a vengeance having won two Group 3 contests already this season. Preference goes to the latter who is tactically versatile and should appreciate a bit more ease in the ground compared to Newbury last time. Move Up is a fascinating contender having won a Group 2 in Turkey last time and looks highly progressive, while Western Hymn should run his usual solid race at this level.

Shalaa was an excellent two-year-old who won the Prix Morny and Middle Park but he hasn't been witnessed on a racecourse in 12 months after suffering a setback and it would be no surprise if he needed the run in such a strong renewal. A chance instead can be taken on the progressive MEHRONISSA, who performed admirably in the Sprint Cup at Haydock last month to finish fourth. Ed Vaughan's charge has already been successful in handicap and Listed company and could now add a Group success to her ever-growing CV. Outback Traveller should appreciate a return to this course and distance, while easier ground will suit Richard Fahey's Don't Touch.

A fascinating contest packed full of in-form contenders. LIBRISA BREEZE was subject of a big gamble when landing the International Handicap from Squats over track and trip two starts ago and he was far from disgraced when fourth in a York Group 3 last time. Another big run likely beckons now he is returned to a handicap. Last year's winner Buckstay could be staying on well late on under Jamie Spencer, Dutch Law and Firmament are closely matched on their recent C&D clash, while Afjaan won with plenty in hand at Kempton in the final of the London Mile Series and could take a hand if there is a strong tempo to chase down. Both Growl and Intisaab have been running well over sprint trips and could also figure if their stamina holds out.

Double Up was a beaten favourite when third behind Caspian Prince in a conditions event at Beverley latest and has to reverse that form with Willytheconqueror here. Sole Power is in the twilight of his career and has obvious claims as long as the rain doesn't arrive with Jamie Spencer looking to be an ideal partner for this hugely admirable performer who loves to be produced late. Priceless gained a deserved success last time at Doncaster and would hold strong claims but preference goes to the Swedish raider EASY ROAD. Cathrine Erichsen has wasted no time in booking William Buick to take the ride, the selection looks versatile regarding ground conditions and appears overpriced on his impressive handicap success at Doncaster last October.

It could pay to side with SHAMSHON, who has been creeping down the handicap despite running eye-catching races, and if the gaps come at the right time, he should be there or thereabouts come the finish. Top Boy has been running consistently well and warrants plenty of respect off his light weight, while Shipyard merits consideration lining up off the same mark as when winning this race last year. Waseem Faris, My Name Is Rio and Dutch Masterpiece are just a few more to look out for in a wide-open finale.
