SAMARRIVE won on his sole French outing at Angers last December before joining Paul Nicholls and bolting up at Kempton in April. Despite his lack of experience, there is every chance the four-year-old could prove to be a lot better than his mark of 132 suggests. Fergal O'Brien saddles two interesting contenders in the shape of Samba Dancer and Byzantine Empire, with the pair both arriving in winning form. Preference of the pair goes to the latter as he comes into this after wind surgery and having the potential to take another step forward over hurdles. Others of note include Straw Fan Jack, who was an impressive winner at Aintree last December, and the hat-trick seeking Small Bad Bob.

Cloth Cap was all the rage for the Grand National following his victories in the Ladbrokes Trophy at Newbury and in his Aintree prep at Kelso. However, he was pulled up having stopped quickly and a wind operation is likely to aid his cause. That said, Jonjo O'Neill's gelding is likely to have bigger targets later in the season and a chance is taken with STORM CONTROL. The eight-year-old's form tailed off at the back end of last season, but he won twice at this course last season, including off this mark in December, and his stable have been amongst the winners of late. Jersey Bean won here in April and could have more to offer having gone up 4lb for that success, while Definite Plan, who sports cheekpieces on his handicap debut over fences, and Cool Mix are feared most of the remainder.

TRITONIC emerged as Britain's leading hope for the Triumph Hurdle following an impressive display in the Adonis at Kempton in February. However, he clearly wasn't at his best when fifth on that occasion and the four-year-old is taken to bounce back on his return to timber following a couple of spins on the Flat earlier in the summer. I Like To Move It was a smart performer in bumpers last season and made a decent start over hurdles at Worcester earlier in the month, while Stepney Causeway won four on the bounce in the spring and a wind operation might yield further improvement.

Before Midnight shaped well over fences last season and he could be open to further progress at this distance on his return. However, a chance is taken on SKY PIRATE who was last seen winning the Grand Annual over this C&D in March. The eight-year-old was given a 7lb rise for that success, but he might take another step forward this campaign. Leapaway produced a career-best performance to win at Worcester last month and he merits respect in this contest.

TULLYBEG displayed a professional attitude when scoring at Gowran Park earlier this month. That form was subsequently franked by the second winning the Durham National at Sedgefield and the six-year-old gelding could be open to further improvement in handicaps. Haul Away is another who has been progressing well and he arrives here after a gusty success at Warwick, while Born Patriot, Butler's Brief and Shannon Bridge all have claims in an open affair.

Does He Know merits the utmost respect having won well on his chasing debut at Chepstow a couple of weeks ago, but he does have to carry an 8lb penalty for that success. With that in mind, preference is for OSCAR ELITE, who made the frame in a pair of Grade 1 contests at the end of last season and that includes a second-placed finish in the Albert Bartlett here in March. Roi De Dubai was only narrowly denied by a talented stablemate in a handicap at Perth last month off a mark of 142, and that form gives him a big chance today.

TOP DOG displayed plenty of promise when only narrowly beaten on his debut at Fairyhouse in April and, having been purchased for 130,000 euros later that month, the son of Leading Light could make a winning debut for these connections today. Ocean Of Mercy has a similar profile to the selection and he should not be underestimated, while Jeremy The Jinn and Shuil Donn are others with strong form claims. Swapped is closely related to plenty of winners and any market support for him would have to be noted.
