NUMEN produced a career best performance when hacking up over fences at Hereford last time and, with McCoy booked for his hurdling return, he gets the vote to follow up. Shallow Bay earned a rating of 83 on the Flat and warrants respect first time under NH rules, while Tweedledrum won races over 1m3f and 1m4f on the level and could be dangerous to dismiss on her hurdling bow.

Any market support for four time point-to-point winner Saint Peray on his debut for the Bob Buckler stable could well be worth noting, but FRESHER FISHING looks the safer option. He appeared to benefit from the application of blinkers (worn again today) when making all on his handicap debut over C&D last time and a 14lb rise in the handicap may not be enough to stop him from going in again. O'Callaghan Strand cannot be overlooked under the champ.

ORION STAR could make the most of his featherweight this afternoon. Seamus Mullins' charge runs his race more often than not and he won gamely on his latest visits here, over C&D, in May last year. Alan Berry appears to get a particularly good tune out of Breaking Silence so that probably explains why McCoy rides the bigger priced Nostringsattached. The latter likes it here, however, and cannot be ruled out, while Surfboard is another leading player.

Spring Moon needs to improve in leaps and bounds on what he's shown thus far, while something appeared to be badly amiss with Priors Glen at Stratford latest and he's difficult to promote as the likely winner on the back of that. The vote, therefore, goes to PERSIAN RUN, who finished fifth at Ludlow yesterday in first-time blinkers. Although not the most consistent, bits and pieces of his chase form is useful and he will be tough to beat here if anywhere near his best.

Mauritino seems sure to mount a bold bid providing yesterday's successful exertions at Ludlow haven't taken their toll, but STRATHCAL gets the nod making his handicap debut off a mark of 107. The five-year-old has improved in each of his three starts over hurdles to date and the form of his second at Sedgefield last time looks rock solid with the winner scoring twice since (one Flat, one hurdle). Soulard is no forlorn hope on his first start for the David Pipe stable.

FREE FALLING will arrive here full of confidence after her first hurdles success at Fontwell last month and, despite a 9lb hike in the handicap, Alastair Lidderdale appears to have found this mare a great opportunity to follow up. Tigger had been knocking on the door prior to a fairly disappointing effort at Newton Abbot last time and he could get back on track here, while Coolagad Wonder wouldn't be without a chance if putting his best foot forward.
