BYE BYE BABY faced a tough task in a Group 3 last time out but she was not disgraced in that event and she can take full advantage of the drop back into maiden company. Epaneema was only narrowly denied by a stablemate of the selection on her debut and she is fully entitled to improve for that run. Clique, Julienne and Lightening Quick are all well-bred newcomers who warrant market inspection today.

Theobald is the one to beat following two second-placed finishes to two Ballydoyle representatives in Group 3 company, but a similar fate may await him here. When Aiden O'Brien's two-year-olds win first time out they are usually well above average and DELANO ROOSEVELT made a big impression when successful over C&D back in July. That form has worked out extremely well and he is Ryan Moore's pick this afternoon. Camelback is another who has already shown a decent level of ability, while Nelson should not be discounted.

Willie Mullins runs two at the top of the handicap here, with Ruby Walsh having a rare Flat outing aboard the Rich Ricci-owned Renneti, who was pitched in with tough company last time and should find this much more manageable. Utah and De Coronado provide a strong hand for Aidan O'Brien, while Song Of Namibia is respected and could be capable of running well once again following his Bellewstown triumph. However, a chance is taken on Noel Meade's SNOW FALCON, who could be well ahead of the assessor on the level and can take a 9lb rise for his recent Killarney victory in his stride here.

Dermot Weld has landed the last three runnings of this contest and looks to have a leading chance once again here with his Aga Khan filly, EZIYRA. She followed up her third in the Irish Oaks with a win in a Group 3 against her own sex at Cork last time and can make a successful return to taking on the boys here. Aidan O'Brien saddles a trio of runners with Ryan Moore plumping for the Galileo colt Spanish Steps over the former Derby favourite Us Army Ranger, who has plenty to prove now, and Exemplar. Ger Lyons' lightly raced Cannonball is an interesting contender on a first try at the distance and arrives here having landed his last two contests. He is another to consider in a fascinating renewal.

A strong renewal sees Aidan O'Brien strongly represented yet again by three of his star Group 1 winners, with WINTER heading the pile. She hasn't looked back since taking the 1,000 Guineas at Newmarket in early May with three another Group 1 successes and she returns to a mile after an impressive victory in the Nassau Stakes at Glorious Goodwood over 1m2f. Roly Poly has improved since coming out of her stable companion's shadow and has won her last two starts at the highest level, with her most recent coming at Deauville in the Prix Rothschild, but she faces a much stiffer task against her dual conqueror and other stablemate, Rhododendron, who is returning from a break. The latter can be forgiven a poor effort in the Prix de Diane where she pulled up due to a burst blood vessel and probably rates the main threat. Others worthy of consideration include Persuasive, who caught the eye on her return behind Roly Poly in France, Royal Ascot winner Qemah and the lightly-raced Wuheida, who would appreciate rain and the drop back down to a mile is in her favour.

Suedois was unlucky when drawn on the wrong side of the track at York in his first attempt at Group 3 company since joining David O'Meara. He did well to finish third but his overall win record is off-putting and perhaps Custom Cut will prove best of the English challengers. Alexios Komnenos impressed when winning over course and distance last time out and was just a neck second to Churchill as a two-year-old. He has plenty of talent but might not be able to get the better of SIR JOHN LAVERY. Tipped as a potential Derby horse at the start of the year, the son of Galileo resumed his progress with a victory in Listed company at Cork four weeks ago on soft ground after a disappointing spell at the beginning of the season and could yet fulfil some of his early promise.

Churchill returned to form when second at York behind the impressive Ulysses in the Juddmonte last month and a repeat of that performance could be good enough in a contest lacking depth. He still has a few questions over this distance and the recent rain makes this an even greater stamina test. Poet's Word should handle this ground and looks progressive, while Eminent won a Group 2 in France last time out and adds further spice to this contest. It might be worth taking a chance on ZHUKOVA, who landed the Man O'War earlier this season at Belmont Park and relishes soft ground conditions. She often goes well following a break and is likely to have had this as her target for quite some time. Success Days is another name to note for value purposes should further rain arrive.

Richard Fahey has two strong contenders who should be suited by conditions here in the shape of Withernsea and STAMP HILL. The former has proved frustrating to follow in recent years, but often comes alive in the autumn and did well to pick up a valuable pot at Newbury earlier in the season. The selection relished the ground at Ascot when landing a big pot and the blinkers that worked so well there remain fitted. A 9lb rise doesn't look too harsh and he could have too much for Silverkode, who deserves plenty of respect chasing a four-timer, and Tempera, who looks like a typically progressive type for Dermot Weld without too many miles on the clock.
