Melnikova's promising juvenile career included a third to Quadrilateral, but the application of cheekpieces isn't enough to banish her lacklustre Ascot comeback to the memory. Folk Dance atoned for her odds-on Yarmouth reverse when triumphant at Newmarket, while Little Becky is interesting on her handicap debut, but another chance is given to WALIYAK. Roger Varian's filly could only manage fourth at York's Ebor meeting but her previous two seconds were good, particularly her performance in the Sandringham at Royal Ascot.

Law Of One made a debut full of promise when touched off at Chelmsford last October, but the lack of a recent outing sways the vote in favour of AMTIYAZ. The John Gosden-trained son of Frankel also hit the crossbar on his introduction, on the all-weather track here, and the way he stayed on suggested that the rise from 1m2f will play to his strengths. Tinnahalla showed potential more than once as a juvenile and has been gelded ahead of his belated return to the fray.

Atomic Jack burst back into life to make it two wins from three Kempton starts over C&D, for which he has been raised only 2lb. The form hasn't really worked out, though, while the standard of Mr Chua's Chester victory hasn't had time to be properly tested, but he did show good resolution. Padleyourowncanoe remains nicely treated on the level, but IMMORTAL BELOVED made a successful handicap debut at Sandown and has plenty more scope for improvement.

This looks a fantastic opportunity for the 88-rated maiden WINGS OF A DOVE, who drops out of Pattern company for the first time since her debut in June. She was Listed-placed in July and has run creditably in two Group races since, and this significant drop in class makes her the one to beat. Night On Earth rates the biggest threat, for all he was two places behind the selection on his latest start and is 9lb worse off here. Secret Handsheikh might prove best of the remainder.

RIFFAA WONDER stepped up on his promising debut performance when scoring readily at Thirsk last month (Bedford Flyer second) and, with further improvement on the cards, he is fancied to complete the double. Coco Bear was an impressive winner at Yarmouth recently and he should go well under a 6lb penalty, while Holwah and Silent Queen are others to note in an interesting and competitive nursery.

Many of these arrive here in questionable form but not REDEMPTIVE, who is very hard to oppose following her impressive victory over 7f at Yarmouth last week. Bullington Boy is starting to look well handicapped on the pick of his old form and perhaps first-time cheekpieces can spark him into life. Gilt Edge has picked up some prize money in all three of her starts so far this year and she should be in the mix once again.

B FIFTY TWO was an impressive seven-length winner at Catterick eight days ago and a 4lb penalty for that victory is unlikely to stop him from taking this contest as well. Kraka was only beaten a length when second over 6f here last time and he could fill that position once again today. The shortlist is completed by Good Luck Charm, Lippy Lady and Rally Driver.

CHAMPAGNE HIGHLIFE may have found the firm ground too quick at Salisbury last time but he had previously been successful at Chepstow and should not be underestimated today. Mister Freeze was in good form on the all-weather earlier in the year and he could make the frame if ready to go after a break, while Itmakesyouthink and A Place To Dream are others who merit consideration.
