Tarlan has evidently had his problems, but he shaped with immense promise on his comeback from a lengthy absence at Perth in the summer. It is a slight concern that he hasn't been seen again since, so Donald McCain's charge is taken on with last-time-out winner KINGSWELL THEATRE. The Lucinda Russell-trained five-year-old improved markedly for the step up to this trip at Kelso last month, the front two pulling well clear, and he ought to make a bold bid under his penalty. Tomahawk Wood and Ultiep are the pick of a modest remainder.

Scarlet Fire was out of sorts when last sighted under Rules, but he has been prolific between the flags in the interim and is respected on his return with the first-time tongue tie applied. Silver Gent should show up better with a Sedgefield pipe-opener under his belt, but preference is for GOLD INGOT. Although no match for an easy winner over two and a half miles at Southwell, he shaped as if worth another try at this trip and he won't find many better openings. Harry The Lemmon ran no sort of race on his comeback and looks up against it.

The drop back to this trip almost worked the oracle for BEYONDTEMPTATION last time out and although she remains a maiden, she might be able to exploit this mark in what looks a weak contest. A reproduction of her Sedgefield effort could be sufficient, but if she disappoints it will most likely be handicap debutant Cape Arrow who takes advantage. Casual Cavalier, who ran much more encouragingly last time, and Birthday Guest aren't discounted and complete the shortlist.

A trappy heat in which cases can be made for each of the runners. Narrow preference is for UN GUET APENS, who was beaten a short head by the reopposing Indian Voyage on his reappearance at Carlisle. James Ewart's representative is better off at the weights and he will prove sharper this time with that effort behind him. Indian Voyage still deserves maximum respect in his bid to land the four-timer, but the greatest threat may come from Firth Of The Clyde, who shaped as if in need of the run at Kelso. Edmund and And The Man are capable of playing a part and merit close inspection too.

NAUTICAL TWILIGHT atoned for a near-miss at Sedgefield when scoring by six lengths at the same track last time. Malcolm Jefferson's filly has a 6lb rise to contend with but in a race lacking any depth, she remains the one to beat. Bobs Lady Tamure has claims on her best efforts and could leave behind a moderate effort at Catterick now stepped back in trip and sent handicapping again. Spirit Oscar is dropping back down the weights and can also figure.

Frizzo built on his victory over the extended 2m5f at Fakenham when scoring over this distance at Huntingdon, and is unlikely to go down without a fight as he bids for a hat-trick. However, Tony Coyle's charge has been raised 10lb for his latest success and preference is instead for TRUST THOMAS, who followed up his C&D win last month with a fine effort in defeat off this mark here. Ubaltique has won off 9lb higher over hurdles and appears well treated in this sphere.

ONE MORE GO showed signs of greenness throughout his debut run at Wetherby but he should be all the wiser for the experience gained and could step up on that effort now granted this stiffer test. Virnon gives 7lb to the selection after making a successful introduction at Carlisle but commands respect on the back of that three-length victory. After he was snapped up for 15,000 pounds in September, it will be interesting to see what the market makes of Qaffaal ahead of his racecourse bow.
