Quinmaster has done little wrong in defeat in his string of runner-up efforts, but he may find at least one too good again this afternoon. Norther Bay has looked a very smart hurdler in the making in two recent starts and once again has his ideal racing conditions, but Eoin Griffin's charge is not without his quirks and could be worth taking on with the consistent LYCEUM, who also loves good ground.

The two to focus on in this event may be Noble Crusader and MICK THE MAN, who both had the beating of the re-opposing Cuchulains Son on their respective latest public appearances. Slight preference is for the latter, despite his lack of hurdling experience, who had 2 lengths in hand when winning an arguably better-than-average renewal of the Irish Champion Bumper at this venue when last seen back in April.

Fast ground bumper winner JERED failed to land the odds on his recent hurdling debut over this C&D, but he travelled stylishly for a long way that day before running out of steam in the closing stages, leaving the impression he would come on for the run. His stiffest opposition may come from the hurdling newcomers Very Effecient and Your Sum Man, who are both likely to have been intensively schooled over obstacles.

Macs Mandalus is entitled to the utmost respect on his first start of the season, but he's not obviously well treated for his handicap bow and may struggle to concede so much weight to stable companion VISO. The selection is also lacking a recent run but won his maiden hurdle at Tramore following a few months on the sidelines and he certainly appreciates a sound surface. Recent Sligo winner De La Rue is also considered, but he has an extra 7lb to carry and might find things happening all too quickly if the rain stays away.

RINDOON developed into a very smart novice hurdler last season and ended the campaign with a highly creditable third (beaten less than 2 lengths) in the Champion Novice Hurdle at the Festival here in April. Eamon Sheehy's five-year-old was a little disappointing on his recent chasing debut at this venue but has less on his plate today and he's expected to have learnt a great deal from that first public outing over fences. Walkin Aisy and Major Stampi may prove to be the main dangers.

This has a wide-open look about it and it may pay to side with top-weight THE ROYAL DUB. He's yet to register a chase success but has reached the frame in half of his 14 starts in this code and could prove nicely treated having looked as good as ever when third in an 18-runner handicap hurdle off a 7lb higher mark at Limerick earlier in the month. The returning Doc Charlie must be respected, but Monas Run is feared most on the back of her highly encouraging reappearance run.

This could prove to be a decent bumper and there are several to consider. Capel Lad is an obvious starting point having found only one too good on his return to action earlier in the month, but there's plenty of potential elsewhere and the value bet could be ADROIT APPROACH, who caught the eye staying on into seventh in what looked a fairly strong NH Flat race (several previous winners) on his recent debut at Tipperary. Fier Destrier, Northern Command and Lady Alimentary are also worthy of places on any short-list.
