Highland River warrants respect now turned out under a penalty for a comfortable victory at Towcester last week and merits consideration along with Southway Star, who had the beating of TIGGER (second) at Newton Abbot in August. However, over this longer trip and now racing right-handed, David Pipe's charge is taken to reverse the placings. C&D scorer Heir To Be has dropped 5lb below his last winning mark and is also considered.

Petito has run well around this trip on the hurdles track here and would be dangerous if granted a soft lead at the head of affairs. Nevertheless, the safer alternative appears to be SURFBOARD, who knows what is required to win around here, has dropped 10lb lower than his last winning mark over fences, and ended his barren run when scoring over hurdles in August. Sadler's Star, up 8lb for his Fontwell romp, is also considered.

Now fitted with a first-time visor, it might be worth chancing that BATHWICK SCANNO can reproduce the front-running tactics that saw him take second at Newton Abbot in September to try slip this small field. Captain Dash is feared most, ahead of Falcon Flight and Vicpol, as he fails to pick up a penalty for his recent chase win at Worcester now moving back over timber and looks well handicapped, being 3lb well in on official figures.

El Diego turned in his best chase effort to date when second in a small field affair at Exeter last time and shaped as if worth a try over this longer trip. Fontwell specialist Orion Star isn't handicapped out of things either and is entitled to go well, but SKIPPER'S LAD looks capable of landing his first course win if reproducing the form shown when second in a 0-115 contest here in March. Although he's now 6lb higher, there may be better to come.

Giant O Murchu is 1lb ahead of the handicapper now turned out under a penalty for his 2m success at Towcester while Dancewiththedevil is considered even better treated with his 7lb burden as he's due to go up 19lb when his revised rating kicks in. Nevertheless, it might be worth siding with the less exposed SWIFT CHAP, who is making his handicap debut for Philip Hobbs today after showing plenty of promise in maiden company.

After failing to stay 2m3f at Fontwell last time, it wouldn't have taken connections long to muse over this drop in trip for Plug In Baby. Freedom Flyer is another with place claims on the pick of his best hurdling effort, when second in a Stratford claimer in June, but there is likely better to come from RAINY CHAMPION now he is dropped back to the minimum trip and, in an open looking affair, David Pipe's charge receives a tentative vote.
