Charlie Johnston has packed all but the kitchen sink as the clan head for their latest busman’s holiday of five days at the Qatar Goodwood Festival.
The Middleham team have notched up 81 winners and over £1.5 million in prize money so far this season as they head south for one of their favourite meetings. Charlie will be keen as mustard to add to his first winners at the meeting in his own right 12 months ago when Arisaig and Align The Stars did the job.
The jamboree on the Sussex Downs is synonymous with the Kingsley Park outfit with father Mark being champion trainer there 13 times and 96 winners at the big meeting in total have now been accrued by Team Johnston.
Charlie said: “We will have the full squad down at Goodwood for the week and we are looking forward to it. The horses have been in great form for two months now and we are probably going into the meeting in a bit better form than they were this time last year. Let’s hope that bodes well for a good week.”
Arisaig and Align The Stars are in the line-up bidding for repeat successes and there looks plenty in his raiding party that could well cover themselves with glory. Here, Charlie talks Tony Elves of attheraces.com through his team for the 2025 Qatar Goodwood Festival.
