Jack Channon’s turf season started with a bang by delivering a knockout blow in both the Spring Mile and featured William Hill Lincoln at Doncaster, and he is hoping those successes will usher in another successful season for his West Ilsley team.
Mezcala was a comfortable initiator of the first leg when scoring by two and a half lengths over Far From Dandy in the Spring Mile before Urban Lion made it a famous double for the yard by holding off Rogue Diplomat to win the Lincoln.
Channon said: “It was certainly a day to remember - let’s hope we can carry on the way we’ve started. We’ve got lots of good horses to go to war with, so let’s hope we can have lots of fun throughout the season.”
Channon, now in his fourth season, had his best campaign in 2024 with 56 winners and £963,949 in prize-money. Either side of that has been respectable totals of 49 winners, and with the team now in full swing, Channon should be adding significantly to his current score of seven winners from 41 runners so far this term.
Channon kindly talked to Tony Elves of attheraces.com about his West Ilsley inmates.
