GIGGLE TO PUT A SMILE ON MY FACE
One of the stand-out performances in the field for the Group 2 Queen Mary Stakes (2.30) on Wednesday was LOVE A GIGGLE's run at York’s Dante Festival.
Karl Burke’s filly got on top late to land the Listed Marygate Stakes in a manner that suggests she’ll be even better suited by this stiffer test. She can overcome a low draw to give the Leyburn trainer his third win in the race in recent times.
Aidan O’Brien’s Victorious, who is also drawn low, boasts a perfect two from two after winning a Group 3 over 6f at Naas and shouldn’t mind dropping back a furlong on this demanding track, while Simon and Ed Crisford’s expensive breeze-up purchase Senorita Bonita is a worthy favourite after making such a big impression at Nottingham.

FINGERS CROSSED FOR WAREETH IN VASE
I’ve won twice on my boss Archie Watson’s three-year-old Wareeth who deserves to take his chance in the Group 2 Queen’s Vase (3.05). He got back on track in a Salisbury novice last month after struggling to cope with the undulations in the Feilden Stakes at Newmarket.
He’s an immature horse who is learning all the time but should stay the 1m6f trip as there is plenty of stamina in his pedigree. However, this is a tough race which may go to Joseph O’Brien’s more experienced LIMESTONE – dominant in a Listed race at Navan en route to Ascot.
In a deep renewal, I could also make a case for Andrew Balding’s Galiyan, who has been popular in the ante-post betting despite only winning a maiden last time. Stamina looked his strongest asset at Chester and Andrew doesn’t usually get it wrong when he thinks he has a potential stakes horse on his hands.
WATHNAN HAVE CLAIMS WITH FRENCH RAIDER
The Listed Conqueror Stake at Goodwood could provide the key to the Group 2 Duke Of Cambridge Stakes (3.40) with the first two home clashing again.
Blue Bolt – another key player from the Balding stable - finished just ahead of Jane Chapple-Hyam’s filly Kon Tiki that day but the runner-up is open to improvement and could have what it takes to turn the tables.
Both face a strong threat from Wathnan Racing’s French raider GODSPEED, who finished just behind a filly that went on to be second in Grade 1 company Stateside last time. Despite being drawn wide, I expect this daughter of Hello Youmzain to come of for that outing and give James Doyle a memorable ride.
DARYZ TO EDGE IT IN STELLAR PRINCE OF WALES
I’m a fully paid-up member of the DARYZ fan club so I certainly won’t be taking him on in the race of the week, the Group 1 Prince Of Wales’s Stakes (4.20).
Last season’s Arc winner has come back strong this year, showing he has the gears for this 10f feature by winning the Group 1 Prix Ganay and Prix d’Ispahan at Longchamp. His turn of foot will be a huge asset in what will almost certainly be a tactical race - as long as the pacemakers don’t draw the speed out of him.
Reigning champion Ombudsman is a wonderful horse who will be spot on after his warm-up in the Brigadier Gerard and is hard to oppose but I just have a feeling the French star can out-point him if Mickael Barzalona has him in the right place at the right time.
WINSTON HAS COMPELLING HUNT CUP PROFILE
The Royal Hunt Cup (5.00) is anyone’s race but Andrew Balding’s progressive young handicapper MISTER WINSTON has the credentials to go well in the famous cavalry charge.
He had no right to overcome traffic problems at Epsom when his jockey Oisin Murphy was almost brought down but the penalty he acquired for winning that day gets him into this off a tempting mark.
Oisin is back on board the four-year-old who makes my shortlist along with Richard Hannon’s Classic, who beat the better fancied Indalo in a hot handicap over 1m at Newbury last time. I also have a soft spot for La Botte who was unlucky not to win the Britannia last year and could easily play a starring role if the cards fall in his favour.
IMPROVING RADIANT CAN SHINE IN KENSINGTON
I galloped RADIANT BEAUTY for James Owen on one of my work mornings in Newmarket and would love to see her take another step forward in the Kensington Palace Stakes (5.35).
James has done a fine job with the mare who made every yard of the running to win a good handicap over course and distance last month – a performance that puts her in with a big chance here.
She proved too good for my husband Tom’s mount Alobayyah that day but William Haggas’s filly did have to come from a fair way back in what turned out to be a steadily run race. She is capable of better while class dropper Stateira commands respect on the merits of her third in a Group 2 in Ireland recently.
SERGEI LOOKS THE ONE IN NEW-LOOK WINDSOR CASTLE
Aidan O’Brien elects to run SERGEI DIAGHILEV in the new-look Windsor Castle Stakes (6.10), which is now a 6f race open to horses bred to stay further.
The son of Wootton Bassett looked smart in a Curragh maiden that has worked out well and his big race rider Ryan Moore shouldn’t have an issue with his low draw in stall two.
Ralph Beckett’s Dance A Jig looks a tough, hardy colt who will appreciate the stiffer test after chasing home subsequent Listed runner-up Adaay Of Scarlett at Sandown and I’m also hoping to see Archie Watson’s Alpe d’Huez confirm the merits of his rallying run in the Woodcote Stakes at Epsom.
Hollie Doyle was speaking to Sky Sports Racing’s Simon Mapletoft.
