Boy In A Bentley came home a tired horse when third at Southwell and now drops significantly in trip having been given a good rest by Kim Bailey. He should produce a much better performance here but BLACK IVORY already has a course bumper win to his name and looked in need of the run when a good third to Australasia over course and distance last month. There will be no fitness excuses now and the form of his latest run has been franked by the winner's subsequent victory in a decent handicap. Mondlicht and Grexit are next best.

Tempting to go with Twenty Eight Guns as her yard is enjoying an excellent run of form and her hurdling exploits represent the best on offer. Moreover, her yard enjoys a healthy strike rate here but there's a concern that the mare has displayed her best on deep ground. She'll prove hard to beat if effective on the forecast quicker conditions but REVERSE THE CHARGE is a speculative option as he goes well on good ground and is usually reliable - his latest run being a rare disappointment. He's well treated and gets the vote with Rivabodiva, a likely improver, next best.

Race-fit Ethelwyn sets the standard having followed up her novice hurdle success with two respectable efforts in handicap company. She has obvious claims reverting to novice hurdle level against her own sex but WILDEHEARTED WOMAN created a good impression when landing a Carlisle bumper last spring and could be one to note over timber and hopefully Jamie Snowden would not be sending his Oscar mare on the long trek north unless she was ready to roll. Same Circus is an interesting Irish recruit for Donald McCain and is one to note whatever her fate here.

Safari Journey gained a deserved success last time but is asked a considerable question under topweight as he has his first start at Hexham on his 83rd start in public. He should be on the premises but FORMIDABLEOPPONENT is taken to live up to his name as he goes in search of the four-timer, having been very well placed by his handler this term. The C&D winner has optimum conditions once again and can defy the assessor's latest punishment. Apache Pilot and My Idea provide Maurice Barnes with a strong hand and the pair are preferred in that order.

Gin Cobbler is not the easiest to catch right but has gone well here in the past and would be dangerous if allowed an uncontested lead. Bally Lagan has definite claims if repeating his latest run at Warwick and runs off an unchanged mark but he has found winning difficult. Halcyon Days is respected but HARLEYS MAX is the choice. He was the subject of strong market support when a rather low-key fourth at Market Rasen when last seen when usual hold-up tactics failed to fire but previous runs were pleasing, a repeat of which would see him go close.

WYFIELD ROSE has been successful in her last three races and looked better than ever here last month, carrying out a 19-length demolition job despite looking reluctant at the start. She ran her rivals ragged and should make a bold bid to make it four in a row despite a 13lb rise. Royale Knight was last seen finishing fourth in the Scottish Grand National and is likely to have all the big staying handicaps on his agenda once more, while Not A Bother Boy holds pressing claims but represents a trainer who hasn't had many runners over the last few weeks.

7

17:10 Hexham (Class 6) (4YO to 6YO)

MR MONOCHROME proved no match for a talented winner at Market Rasen over the summer as he struggled to cope with a penalty and faster ground. He has plenty of size about him and should continue to progress this season, starting with today in a contest that should hold no fears for the five-year-old. Jamie Hamilton's useful 3lb claim comes back into effect now and the pair can get the better of Solway Storm, who made a promising debut in this sphere on this card last year, finishing third and pulling well clear of the fourth.
