MOUNT MORIAH caught a tartar when a well-beaten second to a handicap debutant at Nottingham latest; the winner of that contest obliged subsequently to frank the form, so it is not unreasonable to expect Ralph Beckett's charge to make amends this afternoon. Party Nights proved herself in soft ground when scoring at Ffos Las last month and is a danger despite her big weight while Poetic Force, at the other end of the weights, is an interesting newcomer to the handicap ranks with recently crowned champion jockey Jim Crowley in the irons.

Lucky Mistake was predictably outgunned in a sales race at headquarters earlier this month but takes a sharp drop in class today. Richard Fahey's colt has obvious prospects on the formbook but he has had plenty of chances to shed his maiden and BENJAMIN THOMAS is preferred, having made a pleasing start to his racing career when bustling up Father McKenzie over course and distance last month. Broughtons Story was still in there pitching when coming down at Wolverhampton last time and completes the shortlist.

Newmarket raider Street Poet is open to further improvement after just the five career starts and will no doubt have his supporters, but he was a little disappointing at Goodwood latest and DARRINGTON is suggested as an alternative. The son of Archipenko returned to winning ways when landing a seller at Hamilton last month and though this is a tougher assignment, his preference for ease in the ground allied to course winning form gives him the edge. Rockwood rates best of the rest.

D'bai drops in grade having made limited impact in a Group 2 at Doncaster last month and he may well be suited by the extra furlong here but fellow Godolphin representative DOWAYLA makes more appeal. Saeed bin Suroor's filly looked one to keep onside when scoring at the first time of asking at Nottingham late last month and his stable have hit the right notes recently after a quiet start to the campaign. Fellow debut winner Forest Ranger is an interesting runner for Richard Fahey, while Monticello should find this a little less exacting than the Solario Stakes.

Timekeeping made a pleasing enough start to his career, despite failing to reward favourite backers, when a silver medallist over 1m2f here back in the spring and his stable is in better form now. Nevertheless, his absence in the meantime is a slight concern and, with the form of that race taking a few knocks in the interim, ALF GUINEAS is preferred. John Gosden's charge made a highly promising start when second to Strong Force at Chelmsford City earlier this month and further improvement looks a formality. Admiral's Sunset, Bailarico and Time To Blossom are others to consider in an interesting race.

BURMESE has raced exclusively in Pattern race company since landing a handicap at Ascot last back end. The Sir Percy gelding should find this a whole lot less exacting than some of his assignments this campaign, such as the Gold Cup and Prix Du Cadran, and Marcus Tregoning appears to have found him a winning opportunity. Oriental Fox has been mixing it in hot handicaps and is another with claims, while useful jumper Foxcub is worth a quick check in the betting ring.

SABRE SQUADRON got off the mark at the third attempt in a Leicester maiden over a mile last time out; he looked a stayer on that occasion and should improve for today's extra two furlongs with this stiff circuit expected to suit the Newmarket raider. Al Destoor won with a little in hand at Nottingham earlier this month and cannot be dismissed with just a 4lb rise to contend with. That was the Teofilo gelding's first success in sixteen starts but he has thrived since joining his new yard and a follow up cannot be discounted. Bahama Moon has place prospects after a decent effort at Nottingham last week.

Van Gerwen hit the bullseye when winning with a little to spare over course and distance last month; Les Eyre's charge should like this ground but is not so well drawn today and has more on his plate with an 8lb rise. Cosmic Chatter and Ballesteros are both well drawn but the former may prefer further, while the latter is hard to win with nowadays. CASTERBRIDGE posted a respectable effort over 6f at Ayr latest but he appears better over the minimum and gets the vote with the likely ease in the ground a positive to his chances.
