Kirton Angel's debut run at York has a solid appearance and she may step forward now she has experience. However, the same must be said of BENBECULA, who looked a work in progress on his debut at Carlisle 13 days ago. A well-bred colt, whose price tag rose from 82,000gns as a foal to 240,000gns as a yearling, he is entitled to be a good deal wiser and a sharper start should see him in a much better light. Blue Pete and Deputy Vice complete the shortlist.

The winner of three of his last five start, HATAMOTO remains on a workable mark and has enough scope to brush aside a 2lb rise for his most recent win in a similar handicap at Thirsk. Fellow last-time-out winners Finn Ironside and Emery Down are other strong contenders, while the low-mileage Rousham is a previous C&D winner that could also have a big say on these terms. The consistent Luminous Warrior also warrants a betting check on just his second start for Christopher Kellett.

AL JOLSON made a promising start when beaten a neck at Southwell and that experience is likely to bring the Crisfords' colt forward in his development. Who's The Goat and Classy Night also have the benefit of experience to draw upon and are forwarded as the chief threats to the selection, with the former feared the most dropping in trip after his third at Pontefract.

Lucky Hero has made great strides since stepping up to 1m2f, winning over C&D and at Newmarket most recently. He's 10lb higher now and can't be underestimated despite a rise in grade, but THUNDER WONDER is preferred. Charlie Johnston's gelding was a real eyecatcher at Glorious Goodwood because after being hampered and detached soon after the start he flew home to finish a creditable fifth. This isn't as competitive and he can gain compensation from an unchanged mark. Fox Avatar is also noted.

CHESNEYS CHARM was never involved on his stable debut last month, but he took a big step forward to hit the frame over C&D a fortnight later. Ivan Furtado's gelding was actually dropped 1lb for that effort but is historically well treated regardless, so any further progress might suffice in a contest of this nature. Talitha Rouge might do better down in trip having weakened inside the final furlong over 1m4f at Ripon, whilst Bay Dream Believer is another that could have a say.

Al Fujairah and Golden Caviar both have the potential to do better now pitched into their first handicap, but it looks best to stick with SWEET KISS on this occasion. Tim Easterby's filly went desperately close over track and trip last month and this is an excellent chance to go one place better, despite a 2lb rise in the handicap. Idyllic isn't out of this either.

The switch to more aggressive tactics saw Hurstwood making all over C&D 18 days ago and he must enter calculations from a similar draw. However, the assessor has reacted in kind with a 7lb rise, which could leave the door open for reopposing fourth NIGHT EMPEROR. The four-year-old looked to be drawn on the wrong side that day and may exact his revenge off an unchanged mark. Stormy Pearl finished in third on that occasion and should feature, but she's effectively 5lb higher without Rhys Elliott's 5lb claim.

Although PISANELLO found his winning run coming to an end at Leicester 31 days ago, he lost little in defeat in finding only a well-backed favourite too strong. The veteran scored two of this three recent victories at this venue and the return to a mile shouldn't prevent another bold showing. The New Bay Pearl also arrives here in good heart and merits consideration, along with June C&D winner Yafaarr.
