Astigos is bound to be a popular choice after his impressive win at Wetherby last time, but he has won just two of his 46 starts (placing on 19 occasions) and is far from certain to follow up today. UPSILON BLEU has dropped 3lb below his last winning mark and he will be ideally suited by the conditions today - the softer the better for him. Pearls Legend could well continue his progression after disappointing last time out as he is usually a consistent performer.

Zeroeshadesofgrey is an admirably tough sort and he can never be discounted at this track, although he could prove vulnerable for win purposes off top weight. The David Pipe yard is hitting top form and FINGERTIPS makes plenty of appeal at the bottom of the weights. He was well beaten by Different Gravy last time but take the winner out and Fingertips has beaten some decent rivals and he races off the same mark today. Sugar Baron has not been at his best this season but has looked in need of 3m on multiple occasions. Spirit Of Shankly could go well at a likely decent price.

This looks to be between three and if Hollies Pearl has brushed up in the jumping department she brings by far and away the best bumper form to the table and is entitled to go very close. The Organist tasted defeat for the first time at Leicester in January but bumped into the smart Tara Flow that day and is well worth another look. The verdict is for YES I DID, though, as she has improved no end since making the transition to hurdles earlier this season and could hardly have been more impressive at Catterick last time, where she won by some nine lengths on her first start over the extended 3m1f trip despite still showing signs of greenness and running keen.

A select field of just eight has been assembled but this year's renewal isn't lacking intrigue. Drop Out Joe arrives in great nick for Charlie Longsdon and finished second in the race 12 months ago, while The Druids Nephew won at the Cheltenham Festival last season and was still going great guns before coming to grief in the Grand National. Both are respected, along with last season's Bet365 Gold Cup Chase winner Just A Par and National Hunt Chase fifth Sego Success, who brings course winning form to the table. The verdict is for THE LAST SAMURI, though, as he is seven wins from just 12 starts over jumps and is a leading player for the Grand National next month. The son of Flemensfirth came forward for his first run for Kim Bailey when creating a deep impression in a valuable handicap at Kempton over Christmas and could still have plenty up his sleeve off a mark of 149.

CRACKED REAR VIEW needs to leave behind a disappointing effort at Newcastle last time, when returning a beaten favourite, but had shown promise when placing between the flags and winning a bumper, so it is unlikely we've seen the best of him yet. Last-time-out Ludlow third Deadly Move is fancied to collect the silver medal.

WINTERED WELL sauntered to the most straightforward success over a similar trip at Catterick on Tuesday, appearing to relish the step up in distance, and he rates the one to beat now turned out under a penalty. 3m Musselburgh winner Rocklim is up 8lb but may still have better to offer given his unexposed profile.

A trappy end to proceedings and the betting should prove very useful in untangling the race. Better is expected from Ballycash, but it may be worth taking a chance on one of the newcomers and John Ferguson inmate WENYERREADYFREDDIE narrowly gets the verdict ahead of Alan King's Midnight Maestro.
