Expert Analysis

They finished on top of each other in this, a reflection of a narrow range of abilities more than a false pace, second, third and sixth coming from behind and wide late on despite the main body of the field largely ignoring the long-priced leader. This is one of the weaker Group 2s and Real Appeal’s 112 rating, while possibly not rock-solid, measures up quite well with recent winners.

REAL APPEAL (112 here, 109 previously) had cheekpieces back on and found the small amount of improvement needed to win narrowly in this higher grade, held up in touch on the inner, taking a short while to respond before quickening to lead 1f out, wandering but running on. He will not necessarily stay further.

FEV ROVER (108 here and previously) was back to the form of her third in the 1000 Guineas at Newmarket and deserves full credit, steadied and towards the rear until brought wide and running on well, nearest at the finish.

HOROSCOPE (110 here, 107 previously) did well as things unfolded and is worth another chance at this sort of level, held up in rear, driven after 3f out but making good late headway out wide and nearest at the finish. The horse he beat in a listed race at Killarney the time before, Masen, won a big handicap later on the card, incidentally.

NJORD (109 here and previously) is proving consistent if ever so slightly lacking at this level, mid-field and briefly short of room before staying on for pressure. He has won at 10f but is at least as good at 7f/8f.

MAKER OF KINGS (109 here and previously) ran to form again, soon in mid-field after a slightly slow start and disputing the lead briefly approaching the final 1f.

GEORGEVILLE (109 here and previously) confirmed the improved form of his second in a Group 3 at this course and distance the time before and possibly deserves extra credit, short of room at the start and steadied to the rear, brought wide and running on well, never nearer.

ERZINDJAN (106 here and previously) ran right up to his best but was always around the same position.

KHARTOUM (106 here and previously) never quite looked like getting into it having been steadied at the start but ran creditably in a first-time tongue tie in this higher grade.

THUNDER MOON (106 here, 116 previously) seems less than consistent, this effort respectable at best, though 8f is probably at the upper limit of his stamina. He got through on the inner 1f out but found little thereafter.

MILITARY STYLE (104 here and previously) seemed to run creditably on his first run in a year, closer than most to the front of the main pack.

MAC SWINEY (107 here, 118 previously) disappointed back on easier ground and is a difficult horse to weigh up, his Irish 2000 Guineas win standing out, he led briefly early and was prominent in the main pack but found little late on.

SNAPRAETEREA (103 here, 111 previously) seemed to run a belter when winning at Cork the time before, but that was front-running at 7f on soft ground, and he was much less effective under these circumstances, close up until emptying in the final 1f.

CURRENT OPTION (100 here, 107 previously) has been in and out this season, this just a respectable effort at best.

LUNAR SPACE (88 here, 103? previously) led until approaching the final 1f.
