Lord has to be respected following his Listed success at Aintree last time, but a 5lb penalty for that win could leave him vulnerable. With that in mind, preference is for SECRET FORCE. The Irish raider struggled in a Grade 2 last time but that was a strong contest and his previous Punchestown victory suggests that he could play a leading role at this level. Falls Of Acharn and Scarlet Moon are others to note.
He's conceding weight all round, but LORD very much has the winning habit, being a four-time scorer over hurdles, including of a Listed contest at Aintree last time. The drier ground and speed-favouring nature of this track should prove right up his street and he's favoured over Falls Of Acharn, who got his hurdling career off to a winning start over C&D last time. His yard has a good recent record in this race but he is light of experience. Secret Force is third on the list, although he'll need to jump better than at Cheltenham last time.

WELSH CHARGER won this contest 12 months ago from a 1lb lower mark and was a respectable fifth in the Scottish Champion Hurdle on his next outing. The eight-year-old's fourth in the Greatwood in November is also decent form and he can bounce back from an underwhelming effort at Ascot last time. Afadil chased that rival home last year and won the 2024 renewal, so he has to be noted. Others to consider are Williethebuilder and Kateira.
Last year's one-two Welsh Charger and Afadil could easily have a say, with the last-named fancied to come out on top of the pair this time round, but they could be vulnerable to WILLIETHEBUILDER, who is on a hat-trick following back-to-back wins on good ground at Kempton. He's up 6lb but gets on particularly well for today's rider and has speed to burn. Wise Eagle needs considering also being a useful and consistent dual-purpose performer who likes it here.

INSURRECTION displayed plenty of promise when filling third place over C&D on his seasonal return at the beginning of the month. With the benefit of that run under his belt, the nine-year-old could be hard to beat on this occasion, especially having won at this meeting 12 months ago. JPR One has been running well in defeat of late but a 3lb rise for his latest second does not help his chances. Tommy's Oscar edges out Traprain Law and Teddy Blue to be best of the rest.
A strong handicap chase with a few holding strong claims. Top of the list is INSURRECTION, who returned from 250 days off with a fine third over C&D a month ago and now gets the assistance of useful 7lb lad Freddie Keighley. He's only 5lb higher than when winning by 16l at this meeting last year in the novices' handicap chase and is set to have ground conditions in his favour. He's only marginally favoured over last year's winner The Kalooki Kid, still on a good mark but below his best last time, and JPR One, for whom the step up in trip is long overdue.

REXEM appreciated going back over fences when a running-on second over 2m4f here on New Year's Day and the Irish raider is well worth another chance going up in trip. Sammy Smart will make it tough for the selection judged on recent form at Thurles and Punchestown, which includes a narrow win at the latter venue. Kelce should also be thereabouts.
This can go to KELCE, who returned to form when a front-running second to a progressive stayer at Aintree last time, just being outstayed over 3m1f. The slightly shorter trip and forecast sound surface are in his favour here and he's favoured over Irish runner Sammy Smart, who has returned to form of late and showed a good attitude to win at Punchestown latest. He is 9lb higher now but can go well. Third on the list is Special Rate, who returned to form when placed at the course last time.
