Ionian may fare better than he did at Kempton on Boxing Day now fitted with a first-time hood, but is possibly best watched for now and CRACKERJACQUE makes more sense. No match for No Drama This End in a Grade 2 here last time, Anthony Honeyball's charge should find this easier and he has Sam Twiston-Davies back in the saddle. The Cistercian and Sinchi Roca are also considered.
Sinchi Roca improved on his already decent bumper form to make a winning hurdles debut at Wincanton two weeks ago and it would be no surprise to see him follow up, but CRACKERJACQUE looks well worth giving another chance to tried in a first-time tongue-tie. He won well on his hurdles debut before racing too keenly and finishing last of five in the Grade 2 Winter Novice Hurdle behind No Drama This End here last time. Dropping to 2m will suit him well and the going won't be an issue with him having won a bumper here on heavy last season. Ionian is surely better than his Kempton debut suggests and perhaps a first-time hood will assist him in settling.

BOLLIN THOU won as odds suggested at Lingfield last time out and, although this is tougher, the progressive hurdler is taken to go in again on ground which clearly suits. Calme Olympien got off the mark at Ffos Las and has been freshened up, but the main danger is Precious Metal, who is a Listed bumper winner and makes his handicap bow off a possible workable rating.
This is a competitive little race. Stamina is sure to be at a premium and that may suit BOLLIN THOU ideally given he was a winner over almost 3m2f earlier in January. He's up 13lb in his bid for a four-timer, and is also up in class, but still receives weight from all and shouldn't have any issue with the ground conditions. Tennessee Tango is a likely improver now handicapping over a longer trip, having shaped promising in qualifying runs, while Precious Metal certainly shaped as though this trip would suit when getting up late to win a maiden hurdle at Lingfield last time.

Soldierofthestorm and Rip Wheeler must be considered closely here, the latter especially as he's won two of his last three starts and now tries first-time blinkers. Just a tentative vote is for NORN IRON, who stretches out in distance for this assignment and could improve significantly on what he's achieved in two starts over fences so far at Warwick and Windsor.
Rip Wheeler could easily return to form tried in blinkers, with his stable always commanding utmost respect here, but NORN IRON appeals more. Although a little underwhelming at Windsor last time, he seemed to find hings happening too quickly on the dry ground and getting back on a deeper surface over a longer trip could unlock improvment, with a tongue-tie also added. Soldierofthestorm should improve on his chase debut, when second at Hereford, but a bigger threat may come from Mon Champion, who lookd to be crying out for this trip when up late to win last time. Almost all of his penalty is offset by his rider's claim.

Jax Junior has to be respected on his handicap debut following a wind operation since his last appearance. That said, a chance can be taken on GUNSIGHT RIDGE, who has not been at his best of late but that means that he arrives here on the same mark as when successful in this contest 12 months ago. The consistent Escapeandevade edges out Dr T J Eckleburg and Kotmask to be best of the rest.
Plenty of these have questions to answer so the safest bet might be last year's winner GUNSIGHT RIDGE, who is back down to the same mark as when winning 12 months ago. The ground on that occasion also happened to be heavy and, although the 11yo hasn't been in brilliant form of late, he would have found 2m on good ground at Cheltenham last time against him. Dr T J Eckleburg, runner-up last year, showed more tried in cheekpieces at Wincanton last time and he's on a fair mark if building on that, so rates the danger once again, with Kotmask of interest were it not for ground concerns. Jax Junior certainly has the ability to be on a really good mark but he bled last time and the ground may not be for him either.

KITZBUHEL created a very big impression when winning well in the Kauto Star at Kempton on Boxing Day and Willie Mullins' gelding is hard to oppose on the back of that performance. The main danger looks to be Kala Conti, who has won both of her starts over fences easily and receives a useful 7lb allowance. However, neither of Miami Magic or Sixmilebridge should be discounted but the latter is arguably the pick of that pair.
Just the four runners but a fascinating edition of this Grade 1 novice due to the strong representation from Ireland. Gordon Elliott's mare Kala Conti is 2-2 over fences and was particularly impressive in disposing of Kargesse at Cork last time. She's been aimed at the race and is receiving 7lb, so a big run seems assured, but the manner in which KITZBUHEL flew around Kempton under a positive ride to win the Kauto Star over 3m was striking and similar tactics at often rewarded at Sandown. That form has been nicely boosted, with subsequent wins by the third and fourth, and he won't have any issue with the drop in trip on deeper ground. Sixmilebridge is unbeaten over fences himself and certainly not out of this for Fergal O'Brien, having been impressive in disposing of inferior rivals at Cheltenham last time.

After being outpaced before the last, Henri The Second did well to stay on strongly to just be touched off over 2m4f here last time and he will appreciate this step back up in trip. However, PARTY VIBES hit the line powerfully when victorious over an extended 2m4f at Cheltenham and could improve for this step up in distance. Provided Henry Daly's mare is as effective against the boys, she could prove hard to beat. Roaring Conquest completes the shortlist.
The veteran Gabbys Cross remains fairly treated and could easily have a say back over hurdles, having finished his race off strongly over fences here last time. This may be best left to HENRI THE SECOND, though, the Paul Nicholls-trained 9yo being something of a course specialist. He ran well over an inadequate trip here last time and won't have any issue with getting back on some deeper ground. Hartington stands a good chance on the form of his Haydock run two starts back, but needs to leave behind a modest run at Windsor last time. Roaring Conquest can't be ruled out either, having been made too much use of last time.

Despite failing to complete the four-timer, Mr Vango was far from disgraced when only beaten a short-head into second in the Becher at Aintree and his chance is there for all to see. However, FORTUNATE MAN was a convincing winner at the same venue on Boxing Day and could have a lot more in the locker. A 5lb rise might underestimate the manner of that success and he looks the one to beat. Pic Roc may also have a say.
Pic Roc isn't the most consistent but still gives the impression there's a decent prize in him when things fall right. Whether that's today on heavy groiund remains to be seen There's also a small doubt as to whether Mr Vango will have the pace for this despite the ground set to be testing - he hasn't raced over a trip shortr than 3m2f in two years. He's 3lb higher than when just held in the Becher and has some big spring Nationals on his agenda. Let's side with FORTUNATE MAN, who won well on his reappearance at Aintree when looking like a young stayer with more to offer this season. He's receiving 26lb from Mr Vango.
