Verdict

Second on his introduction at Gowran Park last month, ALPHONSUS LIGUORI can open his account. Prominent throughout, the Joseph O'Brien-trained colt made a short-priced stablemate work hard before eventually losing out by a head. With the winner of that race having franked the form at Naas on Saturday, it will take a smart performance to prevent the Study Of Man colt from going one better. Having stayed on well when runner-up over 7f at Limerick on his debut, Dark Leader should appreciate this stiffer test. Although the bare form of that contest doesn't look particularly strong, the Fozzy Stack-trained gelding showed definite promise. Navan fourth Mergus Serrator may prefer further, but the extended mile here should help.

Expert View Verdict

An interesting maiden and the likeliest winner looks to be ALPHONSIS LIGUORI for Joseph O'Brien. He ran a race full of promise on his debut at Gowran Park and can go one better here granted normal progress. Dark Leader, runner-up over 7f at Limerick on debut, should improve with the longer trip here expected to suit. Res Ipsa is third choice with him expected to fare much better than on his sole outing at two. He's from a top yard and bred to do better at three.
