Expert Analysis
This Group 3 emphasised late speed, the runners posting the fastest race sectional of the day from the three-furlong point, the winner posting a finishing speed of nearly 109%. The runner-up shaped well coming from off the steady pace, also a three-year-old against her elders.
CITY OF MEMPHIS is from a yard going very well and brought her record to three wins from four starts, her sole defeat when in a Group 1 second time out. She raced prominently and went clear late, looking at sharp sort that could be a seven-furlong specialist, though her trainer mentioned going for a mile race next time.
SIGNORA, the sole three-year-old in the line-up, shaped very well. Drawn nine, she was unable to get in from that wide position and had to race in rear. She came wide in the straight and was briefly outpaced before running on well in the middle of the track despite having nothing to bring her into the race. A long-striding type, further should suit as might a straight track.
SNELLEN was carrying a penalty on her first start of the season, and this was a promising return over a trip short of her best. She has twice run well at Royal Ascot, and that meeting is an obvious target.
CALIFORNIA DREAMER dictated a steady pace and looks flattered by this.
PRINCESS CHILD has had a busy early season but tends to improve as the year goes on. She would prefer slower ground and a less galloping track.
CARLA RIDGE won over six furlongs on testing ground last October and showed versatility regarding conditions here. She was keeping on late when meeting some trouble and should improve from this.
DUCKADILLY made late headway but will be hard to place off this mark.
QUEBEC was unfancied on her first run for Joseph O’Brien and should improve for this. She was held up and making up some late ground before running into the backs of rivals, not knocked about thereafter.
FREGADA was up against it in this grade.
MALLAVELLY refused to settle from a wide draw with no cover and had little chance of getting home.
