BRONTE BEACH looked a different proposition when stepped up to 1m6f at Southwell with a first-time hood applied and a 10lb rise might not be enough to stop Archie Watson's filly from backing that victory up. Gallus Norman (second) ran the best race of his career to date when ahead of Star Of Markinch (fourth) over the extended mile and a half here and is expected to uphold the form. However, a bigger threat may come from Zimmerman after his runner-up effort at Catterick.
Zimmerman will appeal to many after is good second over this trip at Catterick last time and he gets to go from the same mark here but BRONTE BEACH is coming off a breakthrough success upped to 14f at Southwell, when clearly improving for the fitting of a hood for the first time, and the former Gosden-trained runner is open to further improvement as a stayer now back on turf. Gallus Norman is coming off a good second over 12f at the course last time and is well worth a crack at this longer trip.

ANNA BELARDO displayed plenty of speed before weakening in the closing stages on his second start at Kempton and the drop back from 6f gives him the chance to get off the mark. Explainingislosing is entitled to build on his Beverley fifth earlier this month, while others for the shortlist include Cailin Aine, a beaten favourite at Thirsk last weekend, and Furturra.
Furturra could bounce back dropping to a bare 5f on a fast track while stablemate Cailin Aine has run to a similarly fair level in all three starts. That pair are likely vulnerable to an improver in the shape of EXPLAININGISLOSING, though. The selection finished fifth at Beverley on debut, just lacking a little pace, but should improve plenty for the outing and can get off the mark at the second attempt. Anna Belardo has solid claims on his debut effort too and dropping to 5f on turf will see him in a better light.

Blakefell was thrown into the deep end in a couple of valuable sales contests before filling the runner-up spot over C&D in November. The son of Kodi Bear has had wind surgery ahead of his return to the track, but the vote goes to WHERNSIDE. Ed Bethell's gelding finished second twice in April, including on his turf debut at Redcar, and that effort arguably sets the standard. You Will See appears best of the remainder.
Blakefell returns after a wind op and has the 2yo form that gives him a big shout in this but WHERNSIDE already has two good runner-up efforts to his name this season and so with fitness on his side is taken to get off the mark at the fourth attempt. KRISSY returned to turf with a C&D success and arrives following a fine runner-up effort over further at Hamilton on Sunday. Jim Goldie opts to take advantage before she gets a new rating and the five-year-old has every chance of going one better. Glasses Up has to be a live threat based on his third at Ayr, and don't rule out On The Bubble following her second here last month.
This can go to front-running mare KRISSY, who was a winner over C&D two starts back before back that up with a good second over 11f at Hamilton just the other day. She gets to go off the same mark here should take a bit of passing. Glasses Up looks the danger having returned to form when placed at Ayr last time. He's on a good mark potentially. Bellarchi failed in her bid for a hat-trick when ninth in a class 2 event at Chester, although there will be plenty who keep faith in her. Persuasion struck over C&D on his penultimate start and is considered, but the vote goes to WILD NATURE. Ed Bethell's charge went in by a neck at Kempton when last seen in November and could record his first victory on turf.
The mare BELLARCHI won back-to-back over C&D before things not really going her way at Chester last time - she got no run but stayed on late. She still appeals as being on a fair mark and is nicely drawn. Benacre isn't the most consistent but he's capable on his day and rates the danger with him also most effective here. Wild Nature is third choice with him last seen winning at Kempton in November. He's only 2lb higher and remains capable of better.

Star Cast just did enough to complete a double at Ripon earlier in the month and she is respected, but the step back up in trip poses question marks. With that in mind, ALPINE SIERRA gets the vote. Jim Goldie's inmate comfortably regained the winning thread at Hamilton at the start of the month and can go in again. Just Dottie is another to note.
Star Cast is on a hat-trick and will likely go well again but this new, longer trip asks a different question of her. The same can be said of SPIRIT CATCHER as well but he was a course winner two starts back and the way he hit the line over 10f last time very much suggests the increased stamina test will suit. Alpine Sierra is another in-form sort, winning over 11f last time, and she too could raise her game a little for the longer trip here.

CANARIA QUEEN failed to supplement her Doncaster triumph when only sixth at Ayr, but she remains on a workable mark and the booking of Paul Mulrennan catches the eye. Sir Benedict hasn't been disgraced in any of his three starts since joining the Ben Haslam yard and he is one to take seriously along with Ganesha, who lurks on an appealing rating in first-time cheekpieces.
Canaria Queen is better than she showed last time with the race having probably come too soon. Her earlier win reads well enough and she can go well, but CLASSY CLARETS appeals more. He hit the line well when scoring at Hamilton last time and still looks nicely treated on old form. Sir Benedict is third choice having finished off well at Hamilton last time, shaping as though he could have finished closer. His mark remains fair.
