Expert Analysis
A steadily run trial for the Ascot Gold Cup where little covered the first three home, Scandinavia workmanlike in victory but leaving the impression he had more to give if needed.
SCANDINAVIA won his second race of the season and fifth in a row, all of them in cheekpieces, racing in typical style as he was one of the first off the bridle but found plenty to win by a narrow margin. He should go close at Royal Ascot, with the extreme trip likely to suit.
HAPPY PHAROAH ran much better than on his return, this sounder surface suiting. He travelled as well as any and briefly looked a danger to the favourite but was inclined to carry his head awkwardly and run around under pressure. He has an excellent record at Leopardstown where his form figures read:112112.
LE DESTRIER shaped well making his first start for Willie Mullins and not having run since June 2024. He was keen early and dropped out but travelled strongly and ran on well into third without getting a hard time. He is interesting for similar races if he can be kept sound.
LEINSTER ran a satisfactory race and might be seen to better effect under a more forceful ride at the Curragh where he has had success before.
DALLAS STAR got a soft lead but did nothing with it.
MONT ST MICHEL ran no race.
